Baseball Recap: Mcguffey's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

McGuffey dropped their record down to 8-5-1 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They lost 12-1 to the Waynesburg Central Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Highlanders have suffered since May 14, 2024.

As for Waynesburg Central, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. They haven't had any issues with McGuffey recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

For Waynesburg Central's part, Tyler Groves made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Groves has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jake Stephenson and Alex VanSickle did most of the damage at the plate: Stephenson went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while VanSickle went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Stephenson a new career-high. Derek Turcheck was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
