 Apex fought the good fight in their extra-innings  matchup against Middle Creek  on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Middle Creek Mustangs by a score of  7-6. Apex was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Middle Creek apparently hadn't forgotten their  loss the last time these teams played  last Monday.
  Will Newton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  scored three  runs and  stole two bases while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was  Drew Berenyi, who  scored a  run and  stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
 On Middle Creek's side,  Casey Murray was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he  tossed  an inning while giving up   no  earned runs or  hits (he also didn't allow any  walks). Murray has been consistent recently: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in six consecutive pitching appearances. Murray was also big at the plate,  scoring two  runs while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances.
 In other batting news,  John Lupienski was  incredible,  scoring two  runs while going 3-for-4.
 Apex's defeat  ended  a  seven-game streak of away wins  and  brought them to 11-4. As for Middle Creek, their victory was  their third straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 10-6.
 Apex will head out on the road to  square off against  Athens Drive at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few  runs on average, (Athens Drive: 4.1, Apex: 3.5) so any  runs scored will be well earned. As for Middle Creek, they will look to defend their home field  on Thursday against Sanderson at 6:00  p.m. Middle Creek is facing Sanderson at the right time seeing as Sanderson is stuck on  a  seven-game losing streak.
