Basketball Recap: Vernon Takes a Loss

Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 28th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Baker Gators, falling 65-26. The Yellowjackets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-15.

Baker's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Terrance Clausell led the charge by going 7 for 10 en route to 14 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Clausell a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was AJ Chilton, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 12 points and five steals.

Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Baker, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

Vernon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 79-28 defeat against Graceville on the 17th. As for Baker, they will challenge Ponce De Leon at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Baker knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Ponce De Leon likes a good challenge.
