Softball Game Preview: Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones vs. Rochester Rockets

The Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones will challenge the Rochester Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Monday, Sacred Heart-Griffin needed a bit of extra time to put away Tri-City. They had just enough and edged out the Tornadoes 3-1.

Kenzie Wieland was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over eight innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Wieland wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Wichmann, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Rochester and Lincoln meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Rockets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Railsplitters, sneaking past 7-5.

Rochester pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Sacred Heart-Griffin, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7.
