Baseball Game Preview: Otay Ranch Mustangs vs. Mar Vista Mariners

Otay Ranch is a perfect 4-0 against Mar Vista since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mustangs will host the Mariners at 3:30 p.m. Otay Ranch will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Otay Ranch gave up the first runs last Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Olympian by a score of 8-3.

Fernando Tovalin looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Otay Ranch is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Victor Bennett was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Jake Medina was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Otay Ranch hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mar Vista fell victim to Ramona and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Mariners were not able to get on the board.

Mar Vista saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Snow, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Otay Ranch's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mar Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Otay Ranch came out on top in a nail-biter against Mar Vista in their previous matchup back in February, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mariners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
