Baseball Recap: Mason Takes a Loss

Mason entered their game against Centerville on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Comets fell just short of the Elks by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Comets have lost by just one run.

Aiden Henger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Mason saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JJ Darst, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Mason and nudges their season record down to 18-4. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Centerville, they moved to 13-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Looking ahead, Mason will head out on the road to square off against St. Xavier at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Centerville, they will welcome Badin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Elks 2.9, the Rams 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
