Basketball Recap: Fleming Island Piles Up the Points Against Keystone Heights

Fleming Island won the last time they faced Keystone Heights and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Fleming Island Golden Eagles breezed by the Keystone Heights Indians to the tune of 70-19. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 26 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fleming Island to victory, but perhaps none more so than Seven Gourdet, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Gourdet a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Noble, who went 7 for 15 en route to 19 points.

Fleming Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Keystone Heights saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Riley Shuford posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Arianna Denmark also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

The victory got Fleming Island back to even at 10-10. As for Keystone Heights, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Fleming Island will head out to challenge Middleburg at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keystone Heights has already played their next match (against Clay), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
