Baseball Recap: Fairless Wins Going Away Against Aquinas

Fairless had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Aquinas on Thursday. The Falcons blew past the Knights 12-2. With that win, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Mike Ritterbeck was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Ritterbeck was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Lucas Peters was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Blake Gregorich was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Fairless always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Fairless' victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Aquinas, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairless will welcome Rittman at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Aquinas, they will take on Canton Central Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
