Basketball Recap: Holmes Comes Up Short

Holmes came up into this matchup off a tough 27-point loss last Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Currituck County Knights by a score of 46-44 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Aces can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while the Knights are ranked 129th).

Despite the loss, Holmes still got an impressive performance from Chloe Chappell, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 50% of Holmes' points, marking the seventh time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Ashayah Boston was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Holmes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Currituck County only pulled down two offensive boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Currituck County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Savannah Banks, who went 5 of 11 to rack up 14 points along with five boards and four steals. Banks has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amani Dawson, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 10 points and three steals.

Holmes has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Currituck County, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-4.

Holmes has already played their next match, a 37-21 win against Manteo on the 5th. As for Currituck County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 39-35 victory against Hertford County on the 5th.
