Softball Recap: Peru Comes Up Short

Peru extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-5 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Southwood Knights. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since April 17, 2024.

Peru saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaycee Leffler, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Southwood, their win bumped their record up to 5-3. They haven't had any issues with Peru recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

On Southwood's side, Natalie Sutphin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. Sutphin has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Peru will welcome Northfield at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Norsemen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Southwood, they will be playing at home against Northwestern at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
