Basketball Recap: New Bloomfield Drops Highest Score of Season Against Fayette

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but New Bloomfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the Fayette Falcons out 74-72. The Wildcats' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

New Bloomfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alex Massman out in front who went 6 for 13 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. Those seven boards gave Massman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Boessen, who went 7 of 9 en route to 15 points and four steals.

Massman wasn't the only one working in the assists department: New Bloomfield was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Fayette lost, don't look at Kaleb Friebe. Despite the final result, he went 13 for 26 on his way to 31 points and seven steals. Friebe has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Payton Oeth, who posted ten points.

New Bloomfield moved to 5-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Fayette, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

New Bloomfield will be playing in front of their home fans against Russellville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fayette, they will head out to take on Linn at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
