Football Game Preview: Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans vs. Riverview Academy of Math and Science Barracudas

The Winthrop College Prep Academy Spartans will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Riverview Academy of Math and Science Barracudas at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Riverview Academy of Math and Science will be up against a hot Winthrop College Prep Academy team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Spartans walked away with a 13-0 win over North Tampa Christian Academy on Thursday. The Spartans' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a point in their last four contests.

A big part of Winthrop College Prep Academy's victory came down to the chemistry between Maya Degreenia and her top target Gabriella Rodriguez. Degreenia threw for 176 yards and a pair of TDs while Rodriguez picked up 76 receiving yards and two scores. Those 176 passing yards gave Degreenia a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Riverview Academy of Math and Science came up short against Cristo Rey Tampa last Wednesday, falling 24-2. The Barracudas have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Winthrop College Prep Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 0.0 points on average over those games. As for Riverview Academy of Math and Science, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Everything came up roses for Winthrop College Prep Academy against Riverview Academy of Math and Science in their previous meeting back in March, as the team secured a 41-0 win.
