Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Honaker

Honaker waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the George Wythe Maroons. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their two-run performance the game before.

Gracie Shelton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Aliyah Hilton and Madayln Dye did most of the damage at the plate: Hilton went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Dye went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Hilton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophie Campbell, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Honaker's record is now 5-2. As for George Wythe, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Honaker will head out to challenge Holston at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Cavaliers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for George Wythe, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Chilhowie at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Maroons surely won't give up without a fight.
