Melbourne and Salem squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Melbourne had to settle for second. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greyhounds. The Bearkatz's defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Kallie Thornton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Melbourne saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Pierson, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Melbourne's loss dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Salem, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

As of now, neither Melbourne nor Salem have any future games scheduled.
