Cascade and Edgewood are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Cadets will face off against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cascade is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.
Cascade is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Indianapolis Washington get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Cadets have won 16 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lacie Godby was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Grace Parks was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Caitlin Gryszowka was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Cascade always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .840. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Edgewood earned a 6-2 win over Northview on Tuesday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
ALLY BLAND spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on ELLA SPROUL, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was MADI BLAND, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Cascade's record is now 24-2. As for Edgewood, their record now sits at 26-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cascade hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .416. However, it's not like Edgewood struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cascade skirted past Edgewood 5-4 in their previous meeting on May 4th. Do the Cadets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
