Volleyball Recap: Nimitz Cougars vs. Westfield Mustangs
If Nimitz was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Aldine last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Nimitz Cougars fell just short of the Westfield Mustangs by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September.
Nimitz took Westfield into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 24-26, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nadya Cannon, who had 12 digs and four aces. The dominant performance gave Cannon a new career-high in aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Josephine Bilbao, who had 12 digs.
Even though they lost, Nimitz was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 20 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.
Kaylanni Uriostegui was the offensive standout of the contest as she had 15 digs.
Nimitz's record is now 14-21. As for Westfield, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-9.
Nimitz wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 3-1 win against Benjamin Davis on the 18th. Westfield has also already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Aldine on the 18th.
