The Pleasant Grove Eagles will take on the St. Mary's Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Pleasant Grove is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Lincoln 13-11. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Thomas Jensen looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nolan Underwood, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cole Davis, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Pleasant Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's posted their closest win since April 4th on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Central Valley. The win was familiar territory for the Rams, who have now won three contests in a row.
Nico Bavaro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks.
At the plate, Brady Errecart was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Silva, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Pleasant Grove's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-11. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for St. Mary's, their record is now 22-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pleasant Grove has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Mary's struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
