Recap: Cyprus Pirates vs. Hunter Wolverines
The Cyprus Pirates won the last time they faced the Hunter Wolverines, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Cyprus snuck past Hunter with a 47-43 win.
Cyprus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tamila Francis led the charge by scoring 12 points along with three steals. Francis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Calee Sharp, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Hunter lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kalysa Ng. Despite the final result, she scored 27 points along with seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ng has scored all season. Grace Gallagher was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 15 rebounds and six blocks.
Even though they lost, Hunter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cyprus only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
The win got Cyprus back to even at 7-7. As for Hunter, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cyprus will take on Taylorsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Taylorsville is ranked 70th, while Cyprus is ranked 55th). As for Hunter, they will head out on the road to challenge Granger at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Granger has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 14.
