Recap: North Harrison Cougars vs. Evansville Memorial Tigers
The North Harrison Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 53-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Evansville Memorial. While losing is never fun, North Harrison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Evansville Memorial is ranked 22nd).
Despite the loss, North Harrison saw an underclassman step up: Olivia Brown scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Goldman, who scored seven points along with four blocks.
Evansville Memorial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Kelley led the charge by scoring 19 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Kelley has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Myla Browning, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
North Harrison has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Evansville Memorial, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Harrison will square off against Madison at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Evansville Memorial, they will head out on the road to challenge Evansville Reitz at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
