Baseball Recap: Lincoln North Star Falls Short Against Ranked Kearney

Lincoln North Star faced Kearney in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Navigators came up short against the Bearcats, falling 22-8. The Navigators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bearcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Easton Wesslund and Kaden Klein stepped up to the plate in a big way. Wesslund scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Klein went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Logan Murphy was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Lincoln North Star's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Kearney, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-6.

Looking ahead, Kearney will square off against Grand Island at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Islanders have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. Lincoln North Star will be paying especially close attention to Kearney's matchup: after Kearney faces off against North Platte, they'll take on Lincoln North Star again at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
