Basketball Game Preview: Franklin County Seahawks vs. Cottondale Hornets

The Franklin County Seahawks and the Cottondale Hornets will round out the year against one another at at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Cottondale is hoping to do what Bell couldn't on Saturday: put an end to Franklin County's winning streak, which now stands at six games. Franklin County blew past Bell 59-38. Given the Seahawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 703rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Cottondale on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Wiregrass out of the water with a 73-39 final score. The Hornets pushed the score to 61-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Kings had no chance of recovering from.

Franklin County's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.4 points per game. As for Cottondale, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Franklin County skirted past Cottondale 45-43 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Franklin County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
