Flag Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ava Pongratz and Giovanna Di Scala Lead Seton Catholic to Victory

Seton Catholic's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Leading Edge Academy - GEC Spartans by a score of 20-12. The Sentinels pushed the score to 20-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Spartans cut but never quite recovered from.

A big part of Seton Catholic's victory came down to the chemistry between Ava Pongratz and her top target Giovanna Di Scala. Pongratz rushed for 60 yards and one score while Di Scala gained 176 total yards and two touchdowns. Di Scala showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 54 yards.

Seton Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Berkley Bandura, Jazzlyn Frias, and Belen Hernandez picked up one apiece. Hernandez is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: she's made at least five every time she's taken the field this season.

Despite the defeat, Leading Edge Academy - GEC had strong showings from Corynn Foster, who picked up 138 receiving yards, and Shareen Liszak, who threw for 169 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Foster was even better on defense, picking up a sack, making ten total tackles (5.0 for loss), and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception.

Seton Catholic now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Leading Edge Academy - GEC, their record is now 0-2.

Seton Catholic didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 21-0 loss against Benjamin Franklin on the 24th. Leading Edge Academy - GEC has also already played their next matchup (against Santa Rita), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
