Softball Game Preview: Blanchester Wildcats vs. Georgetown G-Men

Blanchester is 2-8 against Georgetown since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the G-Men at 5:00 p.m. Blanchester is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

Blanchester's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Archbishop McNicholas.

Not much got past Reece Ledford, who gave up just three hits to keep Archbishop McNicholas off the board.

On the hitting side, Blanchester saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Bates, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Bates has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, Georgetown scored first but ultimately less than Williamsburg in their contest on Wednesday. They came up short against the Wildcats, falling 13-1. The G-Men haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Blanchester pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Georgetown, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.

Blanchester's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Georgetown, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Blanchester continue to outrun the ball?

Everything went Blanchester's way against Georgetown in their previous meeting back in April, as Blanchester made off with a 20-10 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
