Softball Game Preview: Lake Central Indians vs. Marist RedHawks

Lake Central has won six straight games at home, while Marist has won six straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Indians will host the RedHawks at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lake Central's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Merrillville.

Jada Lewis tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last ten games.

At the plate, Lexi Iwema was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 13 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Renschen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Lake Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merrillville only managed five hits.

Meanwhile, Marist is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Munster. The RedHawks put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 10-0 victory. Ten seems to be a good number for the RedHawks as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Lake Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Marist, their win bumped their record up to 29-1.
