Basketball Game Preview: Legacy Longhorns vs. Basic Wolves

The Legacy Longhorns will square off against the Basic Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Legacy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups.

Legacy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Canyon Springs with a sharp 65-40 win. The Longhorns have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 19 contests by 22 points or more this season.

Legacy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trista Mabry led the charge by dropping a triple-double with ten points, 12 rebounds, and 13 blocks. Mabry is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 17 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alabama Nieves, who went 9 for 13 to rack up 22 points.

Meanwhile, Basic didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Sierra Vista on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 50-45 victory. The win continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Mountain Lions: they've now won six in a row.

Legacy better keep an eye on Mia Frias. She was instrumental in Basic's win, putting up 20 points. Another player making a difference was Tatum Meatoga, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

Legacy pushed their record up to 23-7 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.7 points over those games. As for Basic, their win bumped their record up to 16-8.

Everything came up roses for Legacy against Basic in their previous matchup back in December of 2019, as the team secured a 70-41 victory. In that match, Legacy amassed a halftime lead of 40-17, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
