Softball Recap: Freedom Comes Up Short

Freedom lost to Luxemburg-Casco back in May of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Irish fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 4-3. The Irish have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jessa McArtney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Jovie Smith made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jaylin Gribble, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Freedom's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Luxemburg-Casco, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Spartans beat Freedom by a score of 12-6 later that day.
