Baseball Game Preview: Delta Eagles vs. Jay County Patriots

The Delta Eagles will take on the Jay County Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Delta is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Connersville a 7-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

The team relied heavily on Chase Ritchie, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Campbell Light was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Delta hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Connersville struck out 13 times.

Jay County never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against New Castle on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Trojans.

Kade Sommers looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Carter Fugiett was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Jay County is 5-1 when Fugiett posts two or more runs, but 6-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brady Jetmore, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Jay County's victory bumped their record up to 11-14. As for Delta, their win bumped their record up to 19-9.

Delta couldn't quite finish off Jay County when the teams last played last Monday and fell 6-4. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
