Softball Recap: Santa Fe Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Santa Fe had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Iowa Colony on Thursday. The Indians put the hurt on the Pioneers with a sharp 15-3 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Indians considering their two-run performance the game before.

Carlie Hrncir made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Hrncir was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Santa Fe got a massive performance out of Katelynn Torres, who fired off two home runs and three runs while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave Torres a new career-high. Madelyne Baulis was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Santa Fe lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win (which was Santa Fe's third in a row) raised their record to 16-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Iowa Colony, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Santa Fe will square off against Port Neches-Groves at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Port Neches-Groves' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Santa Fe's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Iowa Colony does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
