Recap: Valley View Eagles vs. South Pasadena Tigers
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Valley View Eagles had no problem doing just that on Friday. They escaped with a win against the Tigers by the margin of a single free throw, 74-73. The win was familiar territory for Valley View who now have six in a row.
Valley View found their leader in underclassman Charles Knight, who scored 36 points along with three steals and two blocks. Knight has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last 13 times he's played. Jonah Cowart was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
South Pasadena lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Russell Williams, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jack Madison, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Valley View's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-11. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points per game. As for South Pasadena, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 23-7.
Valley View will be playing at home against St. Bonaventure at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Bonaventure has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 928 points over their last 13 games. South Pasadena does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
