Softball Preview: Leavitt Hornets vs. Medomak Valley Panthers

The Leavitt Hornets will head out to face off against the Medomak Valley Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leavitt is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Leavitt made easy work of Lincoln Academy and carried off a 20-1 victory. The Hornets have beaten the Eagles the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.

Hailey Cyr was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Cyr was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gabby Smith was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Ashlyn Holbrook also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Windjammers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since May 2nd.

Sidney Nichols spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 20 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Claudia Feeley, who went 1-for-5 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Kytana Williamson, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Leavitt's record is now 12-1. As for Medomak Valley, their record now sits at 11-2.
