Baseball Game Preview: Wolfe City Wolves vs. Saltillo Lions

The Wolfe City Wolves are taking a road trip to take on the Saltillo Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wolfe City will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Wolfe City is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Campbell on Thursday as they made off with a 17-0 win. With that victory, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Casen Pessel made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wolfe City is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Pessel was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.

In other batting news, Ethan Young was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and three runs. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Herron, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Wolfe City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Saltillo challenged Bland on Tuesday. The Lions fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 8-7.

Wolfe City pushed their record up to 10-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Saltillo, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
