Brighton has gone a perfect 5-0 against Millington Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cardinals are taking a road trip to face off against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Brighton is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
Brighton had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Ripley on Monday. The Cardinals blew past the Tigers 15-5. Considering the Cardinals have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Laney Lawson tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Aliya Garcia was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aeryl Potter, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Brighton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in six consecutive matchups.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Millington Central and Covington, and Covington kept the tradition alive. The Trojans took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers on Tuesday.
Hayley Stevens was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Grace Bell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Brighton's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Millington Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9-1 record this season.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Brighton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. However, it's not like Millington Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .403. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
