Softball Preview: Gladstone Braves vs. St. Francis Gladiators
The Gladstone Braves will head out to face off against the St. Francis Gladiators on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gladstone has five straight victories, St. Francis has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Gladstone earned a 5-2 win over Menominee. The five-run effort marked the Braves' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Tia Schone made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Schone was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Lauren Sundquist was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Emma Trombley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, St. Francis scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Petoskey by a score of 18-17. That's two games in a row now that the Gladiators have lost by just one run.
