Friendswood vs. Shadow Creek highlight this week's action.

Friendswood knocked off one District 10-5A1 powerhouse last week and faces another test this week in Shadow Creek (Pearland), the No. 8 team in MaxPreps Texas Top 25.

Junior quarterback Luke Grden spread around touchdown throws to four receivers as the Mustangs spoiled homecoming for Foster (Richmond) with a 34-32 victory. The visitors overcame a two-score deficit and Friendswood (6-0, 3-0 in District 10-5A1) could not celebrate until a failed late Foster field goal try.

Shadow Creek (6-0, 3-0), which reached the state championship game in its first competitive varsity season a year ago, has not yet been tested. Its smallest victory margin so far is 28 points and the Sharks have outscored opponents 301-41.

Junior quarterback Kyron Drones has accounted for 22 touchdowns (17 in the air) and has thrown for 1,198 yards. Courtney Brown and Jaylen Lane have three interceptions apiece for a Shadow Creek defense that has not yet yielded more than 14 points in a game. Here is a preview of this week's top games. (MaxPreps Texas Top 25 ranking included).

Friendswood at No. 8 Shadow Creek (Pearland)
Friday, 7 p.m., Freedom Field

Top players

Friendswood: Friendswood: QB Luke Grden (6-1, 175), WR Christian Lee (6-4, 215), S Trey Mappe (6-2, 180), LB Dane Roenne (6-1, 225), RB Noah Palitz (5-11, 175).

Shadow Creek: QB Kyron Drones (6-2, 200), RB Jayveon Bell (5-10, 190), RB Kelvon Brown (5-6, 155), WR Seth C. Jones (6-2, 185), LB Terrence Cooks (6-3, 210).

The winner is assured at least a share of the District 10-5A1 lead. Shadow Creek won the first-ever meeting of the schools a year ago, 27-19.

No. 14 Lone Star (Frisco) at The Colony
Friday, 7 p.m., Tommy Briggs Stadium

Top players

Lone Star: Lone Star: WR Marvin Mims (6-0, 180), LB Jaylan Ford (6-3, 210), QB Garret Rangel (6-2, 165), RB Jaden Nixon (5-9, 156), WR Trace Bruckler (6-3, 190).

The Colony: QB Mikey Harrington (6-2, 165), RB Kamden Wesley (5-7, 180), WR Myles Price (5-9, 170), DT Dominique Puentes (6-1, 230), DE/TE Kyair Warner (6-2, 210).

Lone Star and The Colony have arrived at identical records (6-0, 3-0 in District 5-5A1) on slightly different paths. Lone Star has won by double digits in every game with the 11-point victory over Highland Park (Dallas) the closest. The Colony has prevailed in a pair of close games by four and seven points. When the teams met a year ago, The Colony was a stunning 21-14 winner on a hook-and-lateral touchdown pass at the finish.

No. 18 Martin (Arlington) at Arlington
Friday, 7 p.m., Maverick Stadium

Top players

Martin: QB Zach Mundell (5-8, 150), RB D'Wayne Williams (5-6, 161), WR Cal Robinson (5-10, 170), LB Morice Blackwell (6-1, 196), DT Cooper Evans (6-1, 258).

Arlington: QB Jahari Rogers (6-0, 180), NG Drake Stokes (5-8, 235), WR/CB Charles Brown (5-11, 175), RB BJ Rogers 5-9, 165), OT Kevaughnte McGowan (6-2, 265).

This game has grown to become the Arlington ISD's top rivalry. A little luster was lost this time however when Bowie (Arlington) handed Arlington (5-1, 2-1 District in 4-6A) its first loss last week. Martin (5-1, 3-0) grabbed immediate attention with a season-opening win at Lake Travis (Austin). Martin has won 10 of the last 15 meetings with the Colts, but Arlington prevailed 32-25 last year.

Ridge Point (Missouri City) at Fort Bend Travis (Richmond)
Thursday, 6:30 p.m., Edward Mercer Stadium, Sugar Land

Top players

Ridge Point: RB Marcus Wright (5-7, 184), RB Keith Jackson (5-11, 199), QB Will Pendergrass (6-2, 182), DB Preston Steszewski (6-1, 175), LB Carter Aycock (6-0, 190).

Fort Bend Travis: QB Eric Rodriguez (5-11, 185), RB Aundre Smith (5-8, 175), WR Parker Washington (5-11, 185), WR Jarrell Farr (5-7, 144), DE/LB John Henderson (6-3, 230).

The teams are tied for the District 20-6A lead at 3-0. Travis (6-0) figured to be strong with quarterback Rodriguez and favorite target Washington returning after big statistical seasons. The only loss for Ridge Point (5-1) so far came at the hands of powerhouse North Shore (Houston). Ridge Point opened a big lead in last year's game against Travis and had to hang on in a rainstorm at the finish for a 49-42 victory.

Hutto at Cedar Park
Friday, 7 p.m., John Gupton Stadium

Top players

Hutto: QB Grayson Doggett (6-0, 175), RB Mekhi Kimble (5-9, 178), WR Dajon Harrison (5-11, 182), LB Jayson Vogelpohl (5-9, 160), DE Landyn Watson (6-2, 226).

Cedar Park: QB Ryder Hernandez (6-0, 180), RB Kevin Adams II (5-9, 201), WR/DB Josh Cameron (6-1, 180), NG Ben Bell (6-2, 255), LB Will Lovell (6-3, 175).

Cedar Park (6-1, 3-0 in District 11-5A1) might feel like it has a score to settle in this matchup. A year ago, Hutto routed Cedar Park 65-21. Hutto (5-0, 2-0) is the defending district champion and has won 16 consecutive regular-season games. The last regular-season loss for Hutto was at Cedar Park in 2017, 35-25.
