Basketball Recap: Jaylee Sobotka's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Meridian over Shelby-Rising City

Meridian lost against Shelby-Rising City back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Meridian Mustangs fell to the Shelby-Rising City Huskies 47-41. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meridian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaylee Sobotka, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 16 rebounds. What's more, Sobotka also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kendall Filipi, who posted six points and three steals.

Shelby-Rising City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaleigh Ruth, who earned 16 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taya Pinneo, who had 12 points.

Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Shelby-Rising City, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-7.

Meridian will square off against Southern at 8:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Shelby-Rising City, they will welcome Centennial on Tuesday.
