League recap: Hightchew's hot bat leads Newport Central Catholic

District 36 league recap: 5/29/12

Brady Hightchew was the hottest hitter in the league this week, racking up a .500 average with three RBIs. Newport Central Catholic compiled a record of 2-1 in that time.

Highlands made the biggest jump in the national rankings, moving from 8728 to 7975 thanks to a 3-0 record over the past week. The Bluebirds are currently No. 118 in the state of Kentucky, with an overall record of 22-27.

The Thoroughbreds' pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing nine hits and eight walks to lead the league in both categories. Newport Central Catholic has given up a mere 232 hits on the year, while striking out 204 opposing hitters. Connor Bartels is the leader in that category with 56 Ks on the season.

The Thoroughbreds, the season leader in runs scored at 268, added to their total with a league-high 35 runs this week. Hightchew leads the team with 34 runs scored and Nick Woltermann has a team-high 34 RBIs on the year.



Hightchew led the league with six hits this week for the Thoroughbreds. His 45 hits for the year are third in the league, and he boasts a .336 batting average.
