The Steamboat Springs Sailors will head out on the road to take on the Battle Mountain Huskies at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Steamboat Springs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Steamboat Springs will bounce into Saturday's game after beating Meeker, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Sailors had just enough and edged out the Cowboys 5-4 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sailors.

Wiley Cotter made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Steamboat Springs is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-7 otherwise. Cotter was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Steamboat Springs let Jonathan Nicoles and Achilles Cornwall run wild. Nicoles went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Cornwall went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Nicoles a new career-high. Felix Lohne was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Steamboat Springs hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Battle Mountain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Coal Ridge, falling 8-1. That's two games in a row now that the Huskies have lost by exactly seven runs.
Battle Mountain saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Reed, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Steamboat Springs' record is now 10-8. As for Battle Mountain, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Battle Mountain's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Steamboat Springs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. It's a different story for Battle Mountain, though, as they've only averaged .255. Will they be able to contain Steamboat Springs' hitters?
Steamboat Springs suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Battle Mountain in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Sailors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
