Soccer Game Preview: Newman vs. Calvary Baptist Academy

The Newman Greenies will take on the Calvary Baptist Academy Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Newman knows how to get goals on the board -- the team has finished with four goals or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Calvary Baptist Academy likes a good challenge.

Newman is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 6-1 margin over Episcopal of Acadiana. The result was nothing new for the Greenies, who have now won 17 matches by four goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Calvary Baptist Academy entered their tilt with St. Thomas Aquinas on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 3-1.

Calvary Baptist Academy's victory bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Newman, their win bumped their record up to 21-0.

Newman took their victory against Calvary Baptist Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2021 by a conclusive 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newman since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
