Baseball Recap: St. Mary's Comes Up Short

After flying high against Combs last Wednesday, St. Mary came back down to earth. St. Mary's fell just short of the Seton Catholic Sentinels by a score of 3-1 on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Knights in their meetings with the Sentinels: they've now lost four in a row.

Alfonso Ochoa was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

At the plate, St. Mary's saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luis Mejia, who went 3-for-4 with one triple and one run.

St. Mary's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Seton Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

St. Mary's will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Marcos de Niza at 7:00 p.m. St. Mary's pitchers better be ready for this one: Marcos de Niza has averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Seton Catholic, they are taking a road trip to challenge Apache Junction at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Apache Junction will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Seton Catholic surely won't give up without a fight.
