Alexander extended their winning streak to nine on Saturday, bumping them up to 11-1. They had just enough and edged out the Nixon Mustangs 54-52. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since January 22nd.

As for Nixon, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while Alexander is ranked 73rd).

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was AJ Palacios, who went 6-for-7 en route to 16 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Dante Escobar, who shot 63% from the field on his way to 12 points.

Alexander didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-61 loss against Ray on the 9th. As for Nixon, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Palmview at 7:30 p.m. on the 16th. This will be the Mustangs' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
