St. Anne's-Belfield and Bishop O'Connell squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but St. Anne's-Belfield had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Bishop O'Connell Knights by a score of 71-69. The Saints' loss signaled the end of their 14-game winning streak.

St. Anne's-Belfield lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Danzelle Bullock Coles, who went 7-for-14 en route to 23 points and eight boards. He is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chance Mallory, who posted 24 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, St. Anne's-Belfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive matches.

Bishop O'Connell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiden Caulker, who went 6-for-7 to rack up 19 points. What's more, Caulker also posted an 86% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Justin Edwards was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.

St. Anne's-Belfield's defeat dropped their record down to 21-8. As for Bishop O'Connell, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-9 record this season.

St. Anne's-Belfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bishop O'Connell, they will face off against Paul VI at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Paul VI will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Bishop O'Connell surely won't give up without a fight.
