Baseball Recap: Monday's Win Is Hazelwood West's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Hazelwood West's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the St. Charles Pirates by a score of 9-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Wildcats also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.

Jayden Green was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Hazelwood West's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Green was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jace Torrence and Alex Douglas did most of the damage at the plate: Torrence scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Douglas went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave Douglas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Hobson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Hazelwood West is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.1 runs over those games. As for St. Charles, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Hazelwood West will take on North County in a tournament on Saturday. As for St. Charles, they will be playing at home against Winfield at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
