Recap: Newsome Wolves vs. Gaither Cowboys

The Newsome Wolves''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They fell just short of Gaither by a score of 37-35. Newsome gained 127 more yards on the day, but it was Gaither that made the best of use of them.

Newsome's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Guenther, who threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Tariq Sapp, who gained 151 total yards and two touchdowns.

Gaither was led to victory by Jayce Nixon and Elija Mason. Nixon threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns while completing 86.7% of his passes, while Mason rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Mason is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played.

Newsome's defeat was their fourth straight at home , which bumped their record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-2 Durant and 7-3 Riverview (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65% over those games). As for Gaither, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-5.

Newsome does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Gaither will head out on the road to face off against St. Petersburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Petersburg will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
