Softball Game Preview: Perkins Pirates vs. Norwalk Truckers

The Perkins Pirates will square off against the Norwalk Truckers at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Perkins is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.

Perkins lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bellevue, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. The Pirates put the hurt on the Redmen with a sharp 13-4 victory on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Caden McClellan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aubrey Ransom was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Avery Baker was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Perkins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Norwalk didn't have quite enough to beat Columbian on Wednesday and fell 3-2. The Truckers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Norwalk's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Perkins, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

Perkins skirted past Norwalk 4-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Truckers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
