Softball Recap: Clinton Prairie Gophers vs. Fountain Central Mustangs
Clinton Prairie won the last time they faced Fountain Central, and things went their way on Monday too. The Clinton Prairie Gophers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Fountain Central Mustangs and snuck past 7-5.
Sadie Weliver made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Weliver was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Haven Wilson was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Lily Coleman was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
On Fountain Central's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Jones, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and a double.
Even though they lost, Fountain Central was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with three doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clinton Prairie didn't hit any.
Clinton Prairie's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Fountain Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clinton Prairie will take on Lafayette Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lafayette Jefferson is coming into the game with five straight wins on the road, so Clinton Prairie will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Fountain Central, they will be playing at home against Sheridan at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
