Softball Game Preview: Davenport Wolves vs. Wimberley Texans

The Davenport Wolves will head out to square off against the Wimberley Texans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Davenport's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Wimberley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

In Friday's Canine Competition, Davenport came out on top. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bandera a 16-0 shutout on Friday. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the BULLDOGS recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Wimberley had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Panthers. That's two games straight that the Texans have won by just one run.

Charlotte Woodward spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Bailey Wright was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella P, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Wimberley pushed their record up to 8-13 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 8.33 strikeouts in those games compared to only 2.61 in the others. As for Davenport, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6-1.

Davenport took their win against Wimberley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Davenport since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
