Basketball Recap: Centura Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Sandy Creek came into Saturday's match looking for another win against Centura, but Barrett Fries wouldn't allow it. The Centura Centurions rang in the new year with a 43-35 victory over the Sandy Creek Cougars on Saturday thanks in part to Fries, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards. He has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times he's played.

Another player making a difference was Tyus Francl, who posted four points in addition to five assists and five boards. Those five assists gave him a new career-high.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ethan Shaw, who had 14 points and five rebounds. That was a full 40% of Sandy Creek's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Clark, who posted nine points.

Centura is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Sandy Creek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Centura is taking a road trip to challenge Sutton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Centura comes in on four and Sutton on eight. As for Sandy Creek, they will host St. Cecilia at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
