Volleyball Recap: Manchester Red Hawks vs. New Britain Golden Hurricanes
Manchester was the 3-0 winner over New Britain when they last played one another back in September of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Manchester Red Hawks took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Britain Golden Hurricanes on Friday. The Red Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Manchester actually scored more points across those four sets (92-91), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 16-25, 25-22, 25-23.
Despite the loss, Manchester still got an impressive performance from Kassandra Vargas, who had 11 digs. Vargas is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in the last five games she's played dating back to last season.
Even though they lost, Manchester was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in three consecutive matches.
Among those leading the charge was Yaneliz Vazquez, who had 11 digs and three aces.
Manchester's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for New Britain, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-12.
Manchester will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Lyman Memorial at 5:00 p.m. As for New Britain, they will play host again on Thursday to welcome South Windsor, where the match is scheduled at 6:00 p.m.
