Baseball Game Preview: Bloomfield Cardinals vs. Dugger Union Bulldogs

Bloomfield is a perfect 3-0 against Dugger Union since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Cardinals will host the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Bloomfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Bloomfield took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Greenwood Christian Academy as they made off with an 11-5 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cardinals considering their two-run performance the match before.

Dillon Warnick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Andrew Barker was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Tyler Patterson, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Dugger Union was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 12-2 to Evansville Bosse.

Dugger Union saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Weselon Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Bloomfield's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Dugger Union, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11-1.

Bloomfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Dugger Union in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 10-5. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
