Baseball Recap: Rocky Mount Gryphons vs. Nash Central Bulldogs
Rocky Mount had lost 17 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it 18. They lost 14-3 to the Nash Central Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, with their most recent defeat being a 16-0 loss on April 3rd.
Jack McKellar made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Nash Central, they moved to 14-9 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
On Nash Central's side, Caleb Cox looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Cox has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jackson Lynch was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Flowers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Rocky Mount does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Nash Central, they will take on Roanoke Rapids at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
